Australian Eco-Friendly Winter Clothing – Covering All Styles

eco friendly winter clothing

This post was last updated in 2024

Hello there my eco-conscious warriors 😊

So I’m in the market for some winter clothing and I’d like to make the most sustainable purchase possible. Shopping second-hand is the easiest fool-proof way to ensure sustainability – second-hand will always trump purchasing something new. But I have given it a go and find myself churning through really low-quality, worn-out items. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not against second-hand clothing but I have had some bad luck with knitwear and the stock in my area isn’t great.

So this winter I went in the hunt for some high quality sustainably made clothing that are made to last. And this my search, this blog post was born.

If you are after some eco-friendly winter clothing available in Australia, you are at the right place. Each of these brands listed below was chosen for their dedication to sustainability and ethical practices. The range of styles runs from chic everyday wear to unique artisanal pieces to comfortable activewear – there is something for everyone in the Australian market.

You can get into the list by clicking one of the heading below (winter basics will give you brands offering basic essentials, functional will give you activewear and outdoor clothing brands and specific styling is everything else):

Or here’s a table that lists each brand, the style of clothing offered, their price ranges and the Good On You rating (check out their website for more information) with links to further information on each of these brands below this table:

My usual disclaimer – are these brands 100% perfectly sustainable? I highly doubt it. I based this list on the stated commitments on their websites re ethical practices and transparency in supply chains, the materials they use, where the clothing is made and general operational practices. They may not be doing good in all areas but these brands are doing well in at least one or more of these categories.

So scroll through, check out their websites and come back to let me know if you find something you like.

Hope you enjoyed this little bit of online window shopping. The amount of brands out there that have put sustainbility at the forefront of their operations is heartening. But as a recent report on The Age showed, businesses like these are going under fast and it really requires people like us to support them through our purchasing decisions.

There are times when you are going to need new clotihng and when that time comes it is worthwhile to purchase from a brand that is committed to sustainable practices. Because it is through these conscious choices, we can collectively work towards a more sustainable future 🌎
